On March 11, 2021, CryptoPunk #3100 was the second major Punk sale. This was also 2021’s final on-chain alien Punk sale. Until the Sotheby’s sale of CryptoPunk #7523, we wouldn’t see another change hands (also on this list).

And, unlike #8857, CryptoPunk #3100 is one of nine aliens in existence, making it a clearly influential Punk. However, no one came forward to give this high-profile NFT a social media personality.

Despite the fact that CryptoPunk #4156 was not the most popular CryptoPunk NFT, it was probably the most well-known NFT deal for a Punk in 2021. Because Punk4156, a well-known NFT influencer, and constructor, had made bandana ape #4156 synonymous with his personality. As a result, the sales felt like the end of an era for the NFT community when they took place.

The auction was also a watershed moment for the CryptoPunk community. Because the legendary Larva Labs project had long been regarded as one of the most important NFT collections in existence, issues surrounding Larva Labs‘ copyright policies — which Punk4156 has taken issue with — were the cause of both this significant trade and declining Punk prices as the year progressed.

CryptoPunk #7523, often known as the “COVID Alien” due to its obvious facemask attribute, was the largest punk sale of 2021. It’s worth noting that the blockchain does not represent this high-profile sale, which took place in June as part of Sotheby’s Natively Digital auction.

Stray bits, the initial minter of #7523, and Sillytuna, the Punk’s second-ever collector (who supplied it for auction), are both well-known NFT members. As a result, the sale was hailed as a big victory for the NFT ecosystem as well as a crucial step toward widespread adoption of the technology.

“HUMAN ONE” by Beeple is a one-of-a-kind NFT. Both the NFT and the electronic sculpture went up for auction as a single lot at Christie’s 21st Century Evening Sale as the celebrated artist’s first-ever physical piece.

Many were concerned about what this fresh, constantly-evolving digital masterpiece would cost at auction, given the enormous sale of Beeple’s Everyday. Yet, given Christie’s continuous support for NFTs as legitimate works of art, it’s no surprise that Beeple’s HUMAN ONE would be second only to Beeple himself in 2021.

3. Clock – $52,700,000

Pak has managed to maintain anonymity throughout their career while becoming one of the highest-grossing living artists. They took to Twitter shortly after the sale ended, calling it “a drop with no creator, developer, platform, or middleman share,” and claiming it was “from people, for people.”

AssangeDAO, a group whose primary aim is to fight for the WikiLeaks founder’s freedom, bought the artwork.

The act of minting, collecting, and exchanging NFTs was considered marginal at best before Christie’s decided to take a bet on them through its Online Auction. But it was evident even to Saturday Night Live that the moment of NFTs had arrived after Beeple secured the largest bag in all of NFTs.
