1. Body Scan – Withings
Smart scales aren’t new to Withings, but at CES 2022, the company is adopting a much more ambitious approach to the device.
The Withings Body Scan will have six-lead EKG readings, segmented body composition assessments, and the capacity to assess foot nerve activity, according to the company’s announcement today. It’s a scale for people who wish to know how fat is distributed throughout their bodies and how it may affect their heart health.
The Body Scan appears to be a standard scale, but one with a retractable handle on top. In addition to the four weight sensors and 14 ITO electrodes on the scale, there are four more in the grip. The scale also has a larger 3.2-inch LCD color screen and a year’s worth of battery life. On top of Apple HealthKit and Google Fit APIs, it’ll work with Withings wearables.
The Body Scan, according to Withings, can distinguish between your torso, right and left legs, and right and left arms. Body composition is also broken down into percentages of whole-body fat and water, visceral fat, muscle and bone mass, and extracellular and intracellular water on the scale.
It’s difficult to say how accurate the Body Scan will be smart scales are notoriously unreliable but it’s encouraging to see Withings attempting to provide additional insight.
Many smart scales, for example, do not distinguish between subcutaneous and visceral fat. While jiggly subcutaneous fat is relatively safe, visceral fat, which is not visible, is the type that is the most harmful to your health.
2. LG Display Transparent OLED Signage TV

If Movano receives FDA approval, the ring will be able to collect data for monitoring glucose and blood pressure, two of the world’s leading causes of death diabetes and heart disease. The Movano ring’s beta version is planned to be released by the end of 2022.
