Shmurda was detained in June 2014 and accused of felony criminal possession of a firearm. Police assert that when they arrived at the residence where they observed him flashing the gun, he was attempting to conceal it under his couch. On a bail of $10,000, he was released. A few months later, he was detained and 14 other people, including his brother, were charged with conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment, and possession of drugs and a firearm.
He went for a guilty plea and was detained on Rikers Island on a $2 million bail. Long before Shmurda gained notoriety, the police engaged stated they were looking into the GS9 gang for murder and firing indiscriminately at crowds in public areas. The rapper and his ex-girlfriend were apprehended by authorities in June 2015 after they snuck a knife into Rikers Island. The two were accused of two charges of inciting illegal activity as well as one allegation of fourth-degree criminal possession of a firearm.
