Debra and Peter Schaub welcomed Brendan Peter Schaub into the world on March 18, 1983, in Aurora, Colorado. His father was a second-degree black belt in taekwondo, and his mother was English.
He was not offered any sports college scholarships, but he was accepted to both the Whittier College football squad and lacrosse team after trying out for both. He transferred to the University of Colorado before his junior year in order to play football there full-time, where he redshirted his first season.
After college, Schaub was not selected in the 2006 NFL Draft, but he did sign with the Utah Blaze of the Arena Football League. He was dismissed from the team in November 2006 without making the roster, though. In February 2007, he was once more signed by the Blaze, however, he was released two days later. Schaub then gave up playing in 2007.

Brendan Schaub tested out for football and lacrosse at Whittier College and made both teams despite not receiving any athletic scholarships. He would transfer to the University of Colorado before his junior year in order to play football there full-time.
Brendan did not receive a selection in the 2006 NFL Draft, but the Buffalo Bills signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent and placed him for a brief period on their practice squad. He next joined the Utah Blaze of the AFL, but was fired before making the team.
In 2007, he was reinstated before being released two days later. That same year, Brendan Schaub ended his athletic career.
Fighting Career
After retiring from football, Brendan Schaub moved back to Colorado and started training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and boxing. He entered an amateur boxing match and won the Colorado novice-division Golden Gloves heavyweight title after only six months of training.
After becoming friends and training partners with UFC heavyweight contender Shane Carwin, he started a career in MMA. When Schaub made his debut in 2008 against Jay Lester, he had a perfect record. He defeated Bojan Spalevic to win the Ring of Fire heavyweight championship.
