On December 2, 1991, in Rumson, New Jersey, Charles Otto Puth Jr. was born to Debra Puth and Charles Otto Puth Sr. Puth’s mother was an HBO advertisement writer and music instructor. His father was a constructor as well as a real estate agent. Puth’s younger siblings are twins named Stephen and Mikaela. Charlie has a noticeable scar on his eyebrow from a dog bite that almost killed him when he was two years old.

Puth’s mother began teaching him how to play the piano when he was four years old. Puth joined a young jazz group at the Count Basie Theatre’s Cool School in Red Bank, New Jersey when he was 10 years old and began studying jazz. The school then hired him to appear in a “Charlie Brown” presentation.
