After his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, left his position in August 2021 amid many sexual harassment claims, Chris Cuomo had been receiving calls to leave CNN for months by the time December 2021 rolled around. The news network where the younger Cuomo had been employed since 2013 appears to have ultimately outdone him today, though. Chris Cuomo’s employment with CNN was terminated, according to a statement released on December 4, 2021.
The host of Cuomo Prime Time had previously weathered storms surrounding his involvement in the background of his brother Andrew’s scandals, but on November 30, 2021, he was fired after CNN reported that he had participated in a cover-up during those scandals “text messages between Chris Cuomo and Melissa DeRosa, a then-top aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo… suggested he was instrumental in working to craft a defense against a flood of sexual misconduct allegations [against Andrew]… The text messages also revealed that Chris Cuomo sought to use his connections in the press to help prepare the then-governor’s team as accusers started to make their stories public.” DeRosa texted Chris at one point, “Can you check your sources,” and Chris responded, “On it.”
Chris first addressed his elephant in the room toward the close of his Cuomo Prime Time broadcast on Monday, Aug. 16, before the late-November bombshell, precisely one week after Andrew said he would resign as governor amid a flood of sexual harassment charges.
In an effort to defend his behavior, Cuomo explained to viewers that he was in the unusual position of being the brother of a politician embroiled in scandal and working in the media. He stated, “I tried to do the right thing, and I just want you all to know that.”
The late former New York Governor Mario Cuomo’s sons, the brothers, won a legion of admirers for providing leadership and comfort during the early stages of the pandemic. But as the COVID-19 situation dragged on, their masks started to come off sometimes literally.
Following Andrew’s departure, there were calls for Chris to do the same due to allegations that he was giving Andrew advice off-camera, which many people saw to be a severe violation of journalistic ethics. Chris was also allegedly doing this even after promising on-air to cease.

What Happened Between Chris Cuomo And CNN?
Chris was fired by CNN on December 4, 2021, following his temporary suspension from the network in late November 2021.
Chris was facing his own harassment claims in addition to his dubious behind-the-scenes position managing Andrew’s sexual misconduct accusations, which may have contributed to his removal. New York Magazine reports.
Seven months after being dismissed from CNN, where he was the anchor of the network’s highest-rated show, Cuomo will host a new program on Nexstar Media’s NewsNation network. He will join fellow cable news veterans Dan Abrams and Ashleigh Banfield in NewsNation’s prime-time lineup.
In a Tuesday night interview, Cuomo stated, “I’m going to come to NewsNation and I want to build something special.”
Chris Cuomo was alleged to have harassed women sexually.
While the specifics of this new sexual harassment claim against Chris are still unclear, it appears to have surfaced around late November or early December 2021. A few months earlier, one of Chris Cuomo’s former ABC News coworkers had alleged that the CNN host had harassed her while they were both employed there. He allegedly used his ties in journalism and his affiliations to assist defend his brother; the criticism leveled against him was rapid.
Chris’ boss at ABC News’ Primetime Live, Shelley Ross, claimed that he molested her at a work party in 2005 in front of her husband, who was there at the time, in an opinion piece that was published in The New York Times on September 24, 2021. She remembered Chris telling her, “I can do this now that you’re no longer my boss,” when she was no longer his superior and working on a different show.
She added an email he sent her after the incident, complete with screenshots, in which he apologized. Chris expresses her regrets in the email, first to Ross’ spouse and then to her. He made note of the fact that actor Christian Slater “got arrested for a (kind of) similar act (though borne of an alleged negative intent, unlike my own).”
Ross stated, “I never thought Mr. Cuomo’s behavior was sexual in nature. Whether he realized it at the time or not, the sexual harassment he committed was an aggressive move intended to degrade and disparage his female former boss in front of the staff.
Chris, on his part, stated in a statement: “As Shelley acknowledges, our interaction was not sexual in nature. It happened 16 years ago in a public setting when she was a top executive at ABC. I apologized to her then, and I meant it.”
Why did Andrew Cuomo resign?
Andrew resigned from his position as governor of New York on August 10 as a result of a recent investigation from the state’s attorney general, Letitia James, which revealed that he had harassed 11 women sexually while serving in Albany.
Allegations that Cuomo and his staff improperly used government resources to help him write his October 2020 book, American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic, for which he reportedly pocketed a cool $5 million, and that they purposefully underreported nursing home deaths brought on by COVID-19 have also plagued him in recent months.

In his discussion of New York’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, Andrew brought up the idea of imposing a curfew to keep people indoors.”I don’t like the word curfew. Dad tried to have a curfew for me and I never got past the resentment,” Added Andrew.
Chris replied: “That was the least of your problems, your problems with the curfew. Just so you know.” After some back and forth, Chris stated: “…no matter how hard you’re working, there’s always time to call mom. She wants to hear from you. Just so you know.”
