Who Is Daddy Yankee?
On February 3, 1977, Ramón Luis Ayala Rodriguez, better known by his stage name Daddy Yankee, was born in Rio Piedras, the largest district of San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father was also a musician; he played the bongosero style of salsa percussion. Despite coming from a musical household, his mother is a manicurist. Nomar is the name of his brother.
His goal as a young man was to play baseball professionally in the Major Leagues. He had the opportunity to interview with the Seattle Mariners. Ayala began singing and rapping when he was just 13 years old, but he wasn’t able to concentrate on his music career until he was recovering from his gunshot wounds. He mixed his approach with the styles of Vico C, DJ Playero, DJ Nelson, and DJ Drako to create one of the earliest performers of Reggaeton, a type of Spanish-language dancehall reggae.
