Tosh has a brother and two sisters. In 1993, he graduated from Astronaut High School and enrolled at the University of Central Florida.

He finished his studies at the university in 1996 with a marketing degree, finishing half a semester early because of his enthusiasm to pursue a career in comedy.

Before being able to relocate to Los Angeles to follow his passion, he first helped pay his bills by working as a telemarketing at Central Florida Research Park for $15 per hour. He briefly worked as a door-to-door blade seller before becoming well-known in comedy.
