Chuck Norris enlisted in the Air Force in 1958 and was sent to Osan Air Base in South Korea as an Air Policeman. He started his martial arts training there. He was assigned to March Air Force Base in California when he arrived back in the country. Late in the summer of 1962, Norris received his release from the Air Force. He founded a martial arts school while also filling out a police officer application in Torrance, California.
Norris started taking part in martial arts competitions. His first two competitions were losses. At the International Karate Championships, he additionally dropped three matches. Norris was skilled enough in martial arts by 1967 to prevail in a few fights. Then, on June 3, 1967, Norris triumphed against seven rivals.
