American actor Dylan Baker was born on October 7, 1959. He became well-known for his performances in such movies as Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987), Happiness (1998), Thirteen Days (2000, 2001), Road to Perdition (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007), as well as on the television series Murder One (1995–1996) and The Good Wife, for which he received three Primetime Emmy nominations.

For his performance in the original production of La Bête in 1991, Baker received nominations for both a Drama Desk Award and a Tony Award. With the movie 23 Blast, he made his directing debut in 2013.

Early Life

Baker was raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, although being born in Syracuse, New York. As a youth, he started acting in local theatrical performances. He attended Holy Cross Regional Catholic School, then Darlington School, and Georgetown Preparatory School, where he earned his diploma in 1976.

Baker graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1980 after attending the College of William and Mary in Virginia. The Yale School of Drama, where Chris Noth and Patricia Clarkson were his classmates, awarded Baker a Master’s in Fine Arts.

Among Baker’s Broadway theater roles are Eastern Standard, La Bête (for which he was nominated for a Tony Award), Mauritius, and God of Carnage. His performance in the off-Broadway production of Not About Heroes earned him an Obie Award in 1986. He made his acting debut in the feature film Planes, Trains, and Automobiles the following year (1987).

In Steven Bochco’s popular series Murder One, Baker had his first regular TV role (1995). In the Monk episode “Mr. Monk and the Critic,” Baker again appeared as a guest star and played a theater critic. In the House episode “A Pox on Our House” from November 2010, Baker appeared as a guest. In the fourth season finale of Burn Notice, Baker appeared as Michael’s former spy friend Raines in a cameo role.

In the fourth season of the television series Damages, Baker portrayed Pashto-speaking CIA operative, Jerry Boorman. He appeared as a special guest in the 2012 White Collar episode “Upper West Side Story.” On the NBC television series Smash, he played the father of Karen Cartwright, a character played by Katharine McPhee. He appeared in the Political Animals miniseries on the USA Network (2012). He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work as Colin Sweeney on The Good Wife.

Baker appeared on Broadway in The Audience, a play that portrayed encounters between Queen Elizabeth II and significant historical people, alongside Helen Mirren. Baker portrayed John Major, a previous prime minister. The performance began on March 8, 2015.

In Season 4 of the FX series The Americans in 2016, Baker had a remarkable recurring role as deep-cover KGB agent William Crandall, a morally conflicted expert in biological weapons.

For the seventh season of the Showtime program Homeland, it was revealed in September 2017 that Baker will join the cast as Sen.
