Trevi’s stardom and success collapsed around her in 1998, not long after she and Andrade got married. Aline Hernandez, a former backup vocalist for Andrade, published a book that served as the catalyst for the entire situation. At age 13, she gave birth to a boy a year later and claimed Andrade was the father. Later, citing horrific physical and mental torture, she authored a book about her experience with Andrade and Trevi.

Karola and Katia de la Cuesta, two teenage sisters who were previously employed as backup vocalists by Andrade and Trevi, made comparable claims of sexual abuse against them. Another teen, Delia Gonzalez, asserted that Trevi had sought her out to be a singer. She had to work on a pornographic movie under duress, and Andrade had repeatedly raped and beat her for nine months.

The public charges against Andrade and his collaborator Trevi of enslavement, assault, and sexual abuse forced the Mexican government to act in 1999 as a direct result. They charged kidnapping, molesting, and corrupting minors against Sergio Andrade, Gloria Trevi, and Mary Boquitas, a choreographer and backup vocalist.
