Early Life

On February 12, 1980, Radric Delantic Davis was born in Bessemer, Alabama. His father was a wanted man by the authorities when he gave birth because he was distributing heroin and crack cocaine in Detroit, Michigan. While his mother was away at school, Davis was reared by his paternal grandmother.

Younger half-brother Victor exposed Mane to rap and hip hop when he took him to see Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, and LL Cool J perform. Mane and his mother relocated to Atlanta in 1989. He was raised in a violent neighborhood. While still in junior high, Mane started selling drugs. In the eighth grade, he bought crack cocaine using Christmas money to resell to others.

Mane excelled academically and was well-liked by his classmates in high school. For the first three years he was dealing, Mane didn’t use drugs despite having a side gig as a dealer. Mane had been dealing narcotics for two years in 1995 when he was stopped while riding his bicycle, had a revolver aimed at his head, and was robbed. He started carrying a weapon after that.

Mane earned a 3.0 GPA, a scholarship to Georgia Perimeter College, and his high school diploma in 1998. In 2001, he was expelled from college after an undercover police officer discovered him in possession of crack cocaine. He received a sentence of probation and 90 days in county jail.
