Gunna is the stage name of Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who was born on June 14, 1993. He has record deals with 300 Entertainment, Atlantic Records, Young Thug’s YSL Records, and others. In 2019 he released his first studio album, Drip or Drown 2, and in 2020 he released Wunna, his second studio album, which debuted at the top of the Billboard 200. DS4Ever, his third album, debuted at number one for the second time in a row after its release in 2022.
Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, often known as Gunna, was born in College Park, Georgia. He was raised by his mother and has four older brothers. Fans of Outkast, Cam’ron, and Chingy throughout his formative years encouraged Kitchens to start writing his own songs at the age of 15. He attended Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, North Springs Charter High School in Sandy Springs, and Ronald E. McNair Middle School in Atlanta for his education.
Gunna met Young Thug through Keith “King” Troup, a friend and prominent member of the community who passed away in December 2015. Later, he was a featured rapper on Thug’s song “Floyd Mayweather” from his promotional mixtape Jeffery, which also included Travis Scott and Gucci Mane.
Through YSL Records, Gunna released his debut mixtape Drip Season on October 14, 2016. It included YSL members like Young Thug, Lil Duke, and Nechie. On May 11, 2017, he made the mixtape Drip Season 2. It included a number of well-known Atlanta and YSL artists, including Offset, Playboi Carti, and Young Thug. He released the promotional mixtape Drip Season 3 on February 2, 2018. Hoodrich Pablo Juan, Lil Durk, Nav, Metro Boomin, and Lil Yachty had major guest appearances on it, and the deluxe version included Lil Uzi Vert, Young Jordan, Young Thug, and Lil Baby. Gunna’s track “Sold Out Dates!” with frequent collaborator and close buddy Lil Baby was released on April 17th, 2018. The song gained mainstream recognition and amassed millions of views on services like SoundCloud and YouTube. Following leaks, it was eventually made available as a standalone single.
On August 3, Travis Scott’s outstanding song, “Yosemite,” from his third studio album, Astroworld, which also happened to be the best-selling album of the year, featured Gunna and Canadian rapper Nav. Gunna’s verse from “Sold Out Dates” is imitated in the song’s verse, which Scott sang. Gunna’s inclusion in the chorus was largely responsible for the song’s fame.
A collaborative single by Gunna and Lil Baby titled “Drip Too Hard” was released on September 12, 2018, and it served as the first track of their mixtape, Drip Harder. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at position four. On October 5, the mixtape was made available. Drake, Lil Durk, Nav, Young Thug, and others made cameos on it. On the Billboard 200, it peaked at number four.
He appeared on Young Thug’s single “Hot,” which was released on August 16 and is taken from that artist’s debut studio album, So Much Fun. On Apple Music, the song reached number one. On October 31 (Halloween), the song received a remix featuring an additional feature on a verse from Travis Scott. As a result, the song eventually peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both “Diamonds” from the album’s deluxe edition, which debuted in December 2019, and “Surf” from the album both include Gunna.
Gunna was a featured artist on three tracks in February 2020. He was a part of Pop Smoke’s February 12 “Dior” remix. He also appeared with Roddy Ricch and London on da Track on Marlo’s “My Hood” and A Boogie wit da Hoodie’s “Numbers,” both of which were released on February 14.
Later, Gunna and Nav collaborated on the song “Turks,” which also featured Travis Scott. The tune, which serves as the debut single from Nav’s third studio album, Good Intentions, was released on March 27, 2020. (Gunna is also featured on the track “Codeine” from the album).
Following Scott’s song “Yosemite,” the three musicians have now worked together on the same song twice, with “Turks.” Six days later, on April 2, 2020, he dropped “Quarantine Clean,” a joint song with Young Thug and producer Turbo that made reference to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He released “Skybox,” the lead single off his second studio album Wunna, on March 6, 2020. It was released together with a music video. The album’s lead single, the title tune, was made available by Gunna on May 18, 2020. On May 22, four days later, Gunna released the album. Young Thug, Nechie, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, and Travis Scott make cameo appearances on it. His first number-one album, the record debuted at the top of the Billboard 200.
The deluxe edition, which included eight new songs and additional guest performances from Yak Gotti, Future, Nav, and Lil Uzi Vert, was released on July 24, 2020.
The single “Lemonade,” which includes Don Toliver and Nav, was released by Gunna and the hip-hop group and record label Internet Money on August 14, 2020.
Slime Language 2 is a joint album by Gunna, Young Thug, and their record company Young Stoner Life that was released on April 16, 2021.
Gunna’s fourth and last edition in his Drip Season series, DS4Ever, his third studio album, was made available on January 7, 2022. Future, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Drake, Kodak Black, Chlöe, Lil Baby, G Herbo, Nechie, Chris Brown, Yung Bleu, and Roddy Ricch all make cameo appearances on the album.
Charity
To give back to the neighborhood, Gunna collaborated with Goodr, a nonprofit organization that fights poverty and manages food waste, to establish a free grocery store at Ronald E. McNair Middle School, where he previously attended.

Gunna was arrested in May 2022 as part of a broad indictment that also included Young Thug, another rapper. The 180-page indictment claims that Gunna, real name Sergio Kitchens, committed offenses like drug distribution with intent and obtaining stolen goods. Gunna turned himself in and was arrested for the RICO Act conspiracy.
