Who is Charlamagne Tha God?

charlamagne tha god jessica gadsden

Charlamagne Tha God is Lenard Larry McKelvey in real life (real name). On June 29, 1978, he was born in Charleston, South Carolina. The young Mckelvey was involved in crime from a very young age and was no stranger to the rough streets of Moncks Corner. Following a string of arrests, McKelvey was given a decision. On the one hand, he could keep going in the same direction. McKelvey had previously been detained for having cocaine and marijuana with the intent to sell.

He had also been detained for his role in a drive-by shooting, even though he had merely watched it happen from the backseat and had no influence over how it turned out. The young McKelvey was incarcerated for more than a month for that most recent violation. The young man could, however, decide to pursue a professional career and free himself from such a way of life. McKelvey decided to follow the second route after being let out of jail. It most likely spared his life.

His Career

After being released from prison, the man who would one day become Charlamagne Tha God enrolled in a night school with a focus on media and television. A radio broadcasting center offered me an internship as a result. He didn’t realize it at the time, but Wendy Williams was taking second place to the burgeoning radio presenter.

He read about King Charlamagne, who ruled a large portion of Europe during the Mid Ages while attending night school. McKelvey’s radio alias, “Charles,” was a blend of his alias and the one he used when dealing drugs. Just for his own pleasure, he added “Tha God.”

Although Charlamagne saw his time spent with Wendy Williams as a mentoring and a chance to learn from her, he immediately began adding his own opinions to interviews. He looked to be at odds with the reality that he was a complete novice to the business of radio with his clear and occasionally abrasive approach to interviewing celebrities.

This style of questioning didn’t always go down well with Wendy Williams’ guests, but it undoubtedly helped Charlamagne Tha God build a solid name in the Hip-Hop world. Wendy Williams eventually lost her patience as Charlamagne Tha God increasingly grew bolder and more self-assured. Most people weren’t shocked when Charlamagne departed Wendy Williams’ show.
