Film Career

With a brief part in the romantic comedy “Hitch,” starring Will Smith, Eva Mendes, and Kevin James, Patton made her acting debut in a feature film in 2005. She then had a brief role in the Chris Evans, Jessica Biel, and Jason Statham romantic drama “London.” In the musical movie “Idlewild,” Patton co-starred with Big Boi and Andre Benjamin of the OutKast group in 2006. The science-fiction thriller “Déjà Vu,” in which she co-starred with Denzel Washington as Claire Kuchever, gave her her first major role in the general public that same year.

Patton then played a number of other significant roles. She appears in “Mirrors,” a supernatural horror movie starring Kiefer Sutherland, as well as “Swing Vote,” a political comedy starring Kevin Costner, Kelsey Grammer, and Dennis Hopper. The next year, Patton, who played a teacher of underprivileged pupils at a Harlem high school in Lee Daniels’ well-regarded literary adaptation “Precious,” had one of her most well-known performances. Patton was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award as a member of the ensemble cast of the movie, which also features Gabourey Sidibe, Mo’Nique, Mariah Carey, and Sherri Shepherd.

Over the course of the 2010s, Patton appeared in numerous romantic comedies. They include the 2014 remake of “About Last Night,” starring Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, “Just Wright,” with Queen Latifah and Common, “Jumping the Broom,” with Angela Bassett and Laz Alonso, “Baggage Claim,” with Taye Diggs, Djimon Hounsou, and Derek Luke, and “The Perfect Match,” which Patton also produced. Along with the buddy action comedies “2 Guns” and “The Do-Over,” Patton also starred in the ensemble drama “Disconnect.” The action fantasy “Warcraft,” which is based on the same-named video game series, the thriller “Traffik,” which she also produced, and the British family fantasy “Four Kids and It,” which is based on the Jacqueline Wilson novel, are some of her more recent credits.

Television Career

Patton made her television debut as Detective Angela Kellogg in the 2005 unaired pilot for “Murder Book.” Five years later, as A.D.A. Mikka Von, she made her television debut again on an episode of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Patton was meant to replace Sharon Stone as the new regular in this role, but she was unable to do so because of her casting in “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.”

After that, Patton made cameos on the educational children’s show “Sesame Street” and the VH1 series “Single Ladies.” The actress worked as a guest judge on the reality competition series “Project Runway” in 2015 after filming “Runner,” another unproduced pilot.

Her next major part was as a San Francisco news journalist who tries to aid the police in finding a serial killer in the ABC drama “Somewhere Between.” The show was finally canceled in September 2017 after only ten episodes.

Personal Life

At an under-21 hip-hop club called Balistyx, co-founded and co-hosted by David Faustino, on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles, Patton, then 15, first encountered recording artist Robin Thicke, then 14, when Thicke asked her to dance. Thicke was then 14 years old. He allegedly sang “Jungle Fever” by Stevie Wonder to her while they danced, according to Thicke.

The couple started dating in 1993, and on June 11, 2005, they got married. On April 6, 2010, Patton gave birth to their son Julian Fuego. After over nine years of marriage and 21 years spent together, they announced their split on February 24, 2014. Patton formally filed for divorce and shared custody of their kid on October 8, 2014. March 20, 2015, marked the finalization of the divorce.

A judge rejected Patton’s attempt to restrict Thicke’s custody in January 2017 after she accused him of abusing children. After accusing Thicke of domestic violence, infidelity, and drug and alcohol addiction, Patton was given exclusive custody of their son Julian and was given a restraining order that included her mother Joyce Patton.

According to court records, Patton described a number of instances of abuse and said, “Given Robin’s history of hitting me with a closed fist, pushing me to the ground, and kicking me, I had no doubt he was capable of hitting Julian, particularly after having used cocaine, alcohol, or whatever other drugs he is presently involved.” In August 2017, Patton and Thicke came to a custody arrangement.

Who Is Robin Thicke?

On March 10, 1977, Robin Thicke was born in Los Angeles, California, to well-known entertainer parents. Gloria Loring, an actress and singer best known for her work on the NBC daytime serial “Days of Our Lives,” is his mother. He was best known for his work on the sitcom “Growing Pains,” and his father Alan Thicke was also an actor. He has an elder brother and a younger half-brother, and his parents divorced when he was just 7 years old.

Early Life

Thicke’s parents encouraged his love of music as he was growing up. However, according to Thicke, his father wanted Thicke to concentrate on his schoolwork rather than music, so he declined to pay for Thicke and his band, As One, to create a professional demo tape. Al Jarreau, a jazz performer and the uncle of one of the band members, eventually paid $1,000 for the demo.

Brian McKnight, an R&B musician, heard the demo and was impressed enough to hire Thicke for his production firm. McKnight needed songwriting assistance, and Thicke contributed to the song “Anyway” on the artist’s second album. Thicke was only 16 years old when he signed a recording contract with Interscope Records after being introduced to Jimmy Iovine by McKnight.

Career

Thicke went out on his own when he was 17 years old and was able to support himself by working as a professional songwriter and record producer. He wrote songs for performers including Brandy, Jordan Knight, Christina Aguilera, and Mya during this early stage of his career. He performed and recorded his own songs during this time under the moniker “Thicke” alone, and he did so up until 2005.

After his initial contract with Interscope expired, Thicke briefly worked with Epic Records before securing a new contract with the company, this time under Kenneth “Babyface” Edwards’ Nu America imprint. When I Get You Alone, Thicke’s first single, reached the Top 20 on the Australian charts in 2002. It also did well in Italy, the Netherlands, and New Zealand.

His debut album, “A Beautiful World,” was able to be released as a result of this modest success (2003). Although the album didn’t do as well as anticipated (it peaked at No. 152 on the Billboard 200 chart), numerous musicians, including Usher and Mary J. Blige, contacted him about working together.

Work on Thicke’s second album was postponed as a result of issues with Interscope Records about money and creative direction since the label was cautious and doubtful about Thicke’s ability to sell albums. Pharrell Williams, though, seemed taken aback by Thicke. Thicke eventually signed with Star Trak in 2005 after Williams secured a distribution agreement with Interscope for his record label. The single “Lost Without U” from Thicke’s second album, “The Evolution of Robin Thicke,” was released in October 2006 and reached a peak position of No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. With domestic sales of over 1.5 million copies, the RIAA has already awarded the album its Platinum certification.

Thicke served as the main opening act for Beyoncé’s “The Beyoncé Experience” tour’s North American leg in 2007. In September 2008, he released his third album, “Something Else,” which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. In December 2009, he released his fourth album, “Sex Therapy,” which included songs by Estelle, Snoop Dogg, and Nicki Minaj.

In December 2011, Thicke released his fifth studio album, “Love After War,” which debuted on the Billboard 200 at No. 22. Then, in July 2013, he released “Blurred Lines,” his sixth studio album. T.I. and Pharrell are featured on the album’s debut song, “Blurred Lines,” which was released in March 2013. Paula Patton, his estranged wife, was honored in his seventh album, “Paula,” released in 2014.
