She worked as a business news correspondent and anchor for The Wall Street Journal Report, World Market Outlook, and Business USA at Wall Street Journal Television from 1991 to 1996. She became an anchor and reporter for WBIS-TV, short-lived sports and business channel in New York, in 1996.

Following that, MacCallum worked for NBC/CNBC as a reporter/anchor. Before being assigned to co-anchor CNBC’s Morning Call with Martha MacCallum and Ted David, she contributed to The News with Brian Williams, Today, NBC affiliate news programs, and CNBC World. She also made an appearance on Checkpoint, a nightly show that focused on homeland security and the War on Terror. For Business Center, a former CNBC show, MacCallum created the series “Inside the Business.”

In 2004, she joined Fox News Channel. From 2006 to 2010, she presented The Live Desk, and from 2010 to 2017, she hosted America’s Newsroom. Martha presented The First 100 Days, a new Fox News Channel show that premiered on January 9, 2017. It was made to take the place of Tucker Carlson. After Megyn Kelly’s departure, that show was shifted to the time slot originally occupied by The Kelly File tonight.

The show was renamed The Story with Martha MacCallum on April 28, 2017. By the end of 2020, upstart Newsmax had soared in the ratings, while MacCallum and Fox had plummeted. On January 11, her show “The Story” was downgraded from the premier 7 p.m. ET time slot to the 3 p.m. ET time slot.

After a swarm of Trump supporters rushed the Capitol, she said, “This is a huge victory for these protesters.” They have caused massive systemic disruption.” She later called the events “unsettling” and stressed that “control has to be maintained” while covering them. The comparison between “swarms of Trump supporters breaking into the seat of democracy, an event that made global news, to a small-scale incident at the house of a Republican official,” according to the New York Times, is “bizarre.”

MacCallum has received the Soldiersocks Commitment To Serve award and has won the Gracie Award for Women in Journalism twice. Some have chastised her for referring to COVID-19 as the “China Virus.”

Martha MacCallum has been with Fox News for more than 20 years and has developed a strong and dedicated following, particularly among Republicans.
