Matt Kenseth – Early Life

Kenseth was born in the town of Cambridge in the state of Wisconsin. In 1988, when Kenseth was 16 years old, he began competing in stock car racing at Madison International Speedway.

Matt Kenseth – Career 

He set the record for being the series’ youngest winner when he won the ARTGO race at La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway in 1991. Kenseth endured a difficult year in 1992. He won three races and blew up an inordinate number of motors that it was impossible to keep track of them all. His desire to withdraw from racing was evident at the conclusion of the season.

During the 1994 and 1995 short track seasons, Kenseth established himself as a rising star in the sport. Kenseth made a name for himself by defeating well-known national competitors such as Dick Trickle and Rob Reiser. 

During his time at WIR, he won back-to-back titles and finished runner-up at Madison in 1995. He also won the Red, White, and Blue state championship series three times.

Kenneth went to the southern United States in 1996 to take part in the Hooters Series Late Model championship for engine manufacturer Carl Wegner. He came first place in his first year of competition. In 2006, Kenseth, driving the No. 17 Ford Fusion, won the final two races of the Busch season.

In 2007, Kenseth competed in 23 Busch Series events. He won the Stater Brothers 300 at California Speedway in February. He then won the O’Reilly 300 at Texas Motor Speedway in April.

Kenseth won the Nicorette 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2008. After the series was renamed the Nationwide Series, Kenseth won his 23rd championship in the series’ inaugural season. 

After flipping three times and sliding onto his roof during lap 104 of the 2009 Aaron’s 312, Kenseth did the fourth flip and finished the race in the top five overall. Kenseth moved away as the car burst into flames in front of his eyes. He won several races in the following years.

Later Career

Kenseth competed in 19 races with the No. 20 car in 2014, finishing in the top five on ten occasions and in the top ten on fifteen occasions. At Homestead, he scored his 29th and final victory in the Series by winning the final race of the season.

Chip Ganassi Racing stated that Ross Chastain would take over for Kenseth in the 2021 season. On the last day of the season, Kenseth finished 25th in Phoenix, where he also won his final race.

In an interview with the Wisconsin State Journal on November 18, Kenseth claimed that he had no plans to pursue full-time NASCAR racing and that he would instead concentrate on late models and sports cars.

Xfinity Series

After driver Tim Bender sustained an injury in 1997, Bender’s crew chief and car owner Robbie Reiser enlisted Kenseth to race for him. Kenseth qualified third for the new team’s first race, which took place that Sunday. He was in third place in the last laps of the race until he spun out and finished tenth. 

In his second race, Kenseth qualified 20th for the following race at Talladega. After passing thirteen vehicles, he finished in seventh place. During the first half of the season, Kenseth finished in the Top 5 twice.

Kenseth married Katie Martin, who was also from Cambridge, in 2000. Kenseth is the father of Ross Kenseth, who was born out of a prior relationship. Matt and Katie are the parents of four daughters: Grace Katherine, born on February 22, 2011, Clara Mae, born on March 25, 2014, and Mallory Karen, born on December 20, 2017. 

On July 15, 2018, Kenseth became a grandfather to a daughter called Lexi. Colt Matthew, Kenseth’s grandson, was born on April 8, 2021, in the city of New Orleans.
