McKayla Rose Maroney commonly known as McKayla Maroney, an artistic gymnast from the United States, has retired. She was a member of the Fierce Five, an American women’s gymnastics team that took gold in the team event and silver in the vault event at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Maroney also won gold medals in the team and vault disciplines at the 2011 World Championships. At the 2013 World Championships, she successfully defended her World championship and won gold on the vault, making her the first American female gymnast to do it.

Who is McKayla Maroney?
McKayla Rose Maroney, the daughter of Erin and Mike Maroney, was born in Aliso Viejo, California, on December 9, 1995. (died 2019). Her father was a Purdue University quarterback, while her mother was a figure skater and a high school athlete.
Her ancestors were Irish Catholics. She was homeschooled to prepare as an exceptional gymnast and has two siblings, Tarynn and Kav.
“Says Maroney,” “I used to watch Tarzan and run about on all fours when I was little. ‘This child has to be in gymnastics,’ my mother said. ‘She has gone insane.’ I began gymnastics when I was two years old and have always felt at ease in the gymnasium.”
She began working out at Gym-Max in Costa Mesa, California when she was nine years old. She stated in 2012: “I realized I had a dream about going to the Olympics and going as far as I possibly could. I decided I needed to find a new gym and start planning for the Olympics.”
Maroney said this about her earliest Olympic memory: “Carly Patterson is someone I remember seeing. My favorite was her. Her floor routine was incredible. That year, Kyla [Ross] and I competed in the Olympic Trials.
I recall admiring the gymnasts’ leotards on the floor. They were both small and amazing, I thought. I wondered how I would manage to stay so small. Because my father is 6’3″ and my mother is 5’2″, I was concerned that I would be extremely tall.”

The Career of McKayla Maroney
During the next four years of her career, McKayla advanced quickly from level 5 to level 10. She competed in her first major competition, the Visa Championships, in Dallas, Texas, in 2009, when she was only 13 years old.
She began training in Los Angeles after that and soon competed in the CoverGirl Classic in Chicago, Illinois. McKayla was selected to the U.S. Olympic ladies’ tumbling team in 2012, following her performance at the Olympic Trials in San Jose, California.
The gymnast was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in July of 2012, together with the rest of the United States women’s team. Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman, Gabrielle Douglas, and Kyla Ross are among the actresses who have appeared on the show.

Maroney stated she intended to improve both her vaulting and her tumbling on the floor by the 2016 Olympics in an interview after she completed.
Maroney participated in vault and floor exercises during the P&G Championships in August. In both events, she took home gold.
Maroney was named to the US team for the 2013 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, on September 15. After performing exceptionally well at podium training, she was picked to compete as an all-around gymnast alongside Simone Biles and Kyla Ross.
Because each event can only have three gymnasts, teammate Brenna Dowell was named as an alternative instead. She finished 6th overall with a total all-around score of 57.149, however owing to the two-per-country rule, she was unable to compete in the all-around final or the floor final (14.333), nor could she qualify as a third reserve for the uneven bars final (14.3).
Maroney would have qualified ahead of colleague Kyla Ross on the floor, but she received a 0.1 deduction for her music being one second late, placing her in sixth place with the same score as Ross.
Ross advanced to the final because Maroney performed poorly, even though the task was more demanding. She successfully defended her title in the vault final, claiming gold with a 15.724 score. Maroney’s career came to a close with this routine. She became the first American woman to defend a world vault championship.

McKayle Maroney’s Injuries And Retirement
McKayla Maroney’s knee was operated on in March 2014. The April issue of Inside Gymnastics featured Maroney on the cover. She expressed her desire to upgrade both of her vaults in International Gymnast Magazine.
The 2014 celebrity photo leaks included juvenile nude images of Maroney on August 31, 2014. Following the 2013 World Championships, Maroney claimed in a YouTube video in March 2015 that she suffered from adrenal fatigue.
Maroney gave an honest 49-minute interview with the famous gymnastics podcast GymCastic on February 24, 2016, about her health concerns leading up to and after the 2012 Olympic Games.

On November 20, 2012, Maroney made her acting debut in Hart of Dixie, a CW television series. In the episode “Baby, Don’t Get Hooked on Me,” she portrayed Tonya, Rose’s buddy. Maroney was cast in six episodes of the series after that appearance.
Maroney played Ellie, a gymnast who is a suspect in the murder of a fellow gymnast, in an episode of Fox’s Bones called “The Spark in the Park” (season 9) in December 2013.
Maroney made a series of frank appearances alongside fellow Olympians Tara Lipinski and Apolo Ohno on August 19, 2016, in season 2 episode 1 of the NBC TV program Superstore called “The Olympics.” In the year 2021, Maroney appears in various GEICO advertisements.
