Who is Megan Thee Stallion?

On February 15, 1995, in San Antonio, Texas, Megan Jovon Ruth Pete was given the name Megan Thee Stallion. Together with her mother Holly Thomas, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Megan grew up in the South Park district of Houston. For the first eight years of her existence, Joseph Pete Jr lived in prison. After his release, they became closer, until his passing when Megan was 15 years old.

Young Megan’s self-confidence was boosted by family members. “I had examples of women in my life and they always put it in like, “Megan, you’re amazing.” You’re doing so good,” “She spoke to  NME. “That came from my father too. I didn’t know anything else from birth.” In addition to being a bill collector, Holly Thomas, her mother, also had a successful rap career from 2001 until 2007 under the stage name Holly-Wood.

Megan intended to finish her undergraduate degree in health administration, despite the fact that she was overburdened with time demands as a result of her fame. I’m doing it for me, but I’m also doing it for the ladies in my family who helped shape who I am today, she said.

Megan is expected to graduate in the fall of 2021 after transferring to Texas Southern University and taking online classes for years. Her goal of opening assisted living facilities in Houston was sparked by her own experiences providing care for her own family. If the grandchildren had a nice place for their grandparents to go, she said, “I just feel like it’ll be a weight lifted off of family members if they had somewhere for their grandparents to go and be comfortable,” she also said. “I want to give back; this is what I’m gonna do.”

Megan’s long-term objectives include keeping up her rapping, but she is not ruling anything out, saying, “I don’t like to put myself in a box. Anything I can get my hands on, I want to do it. When I’m in my 30s I don’t want to just be known as Megan the rapper I want to be Megan the mogul. I want to have been a director, I want to have all my brand deals. I want to be known as a philanthropist.”

After school, Megan would go with my mom to the recording studio since she found the setting fascinating. In 2019, Megan said, “My mom thought I was asleep or watching TV, but I was really listening to the instrumentals being played over and over. So, I would be writing rhymes in my little kid’s folder in the other room, just things that I thought sounded cool. I owe my everything to my mom.”

With the help of a Barbie doll that provided pre-recorded instrumentals and beats, Megan began rapping for her mother when she was 7 years old. She occasionally stole the instrumentals from her mother’s songs and wrote her own words. She initially refrained from talking about her aspirations to become a rapper, though. Her early pursuits included serving as team captain for the cheerleading and dance squads in middle school and participating in drill teams in high school.

Megan gave the following explanation of the history of her given name in a 2017 interview: ” since I was younger, probably about 15 or 16, I have always had the same body.  The older guy would always be like, ‘Oh, you a stallion.’  So, I finally had to ask, “Is that a good thing?” Everybody pretty much ran with it, and  then I put it as my main name on Twitter, and ever since then everybody’s just been calling me Stallion.”

Megan Thee Stallion’s Career

Megan enrolled in classes at Prairie View A&M University in Houston in 2013. She was inspired to start rapping by the college. She came clean in 2019 “Why I kept my desire to become a rapper a secret from anyone in high school escapes me. When I came to college, I was just like, “I’m a rapper,” even though I just didn’t want to say anything.” She participated in fights, and her freestyles were popular online.

Thomas was shocked by the graphic content of Megan’s lyrics when she finally rapped for her mother. She acknowledged Megan’s talent but advised her to finish college and hold off on starting a profession until she was 21.

Megan joined local Houston rappers in a cypher freestyle session in 2016. She gave a strong, composed performance that attracted more attention. Megan’s mother managed her when she started to achieve success. Thomas urged her daughter to approach the project seriously and use her own voice when rapping. Rich Ratchet, Make It Hot, and Tina Snow is all mixtapes by Megan that were released in 2016, 2017, and 2018, respectively. Her first single to hit on the Billboard Hot 100 was “Big Ole Freak” (2019).

Megan relied on her mother even as her star began to rise, saying “I just always said, “I’m going to call my mum.” She’ll be aware of what to do.” Sadly, she lost this assistance when Thomas passed away in March 2019 from a brain tumor. Unfortunately, Megan’s great-grandmother also passed away in the same month.

Focusing on her profession helped Megan deal with her sadness, she discovered. She said to Rolling Stone that “[the losses] weigh on me.” “But I know what my mom and my grandma would want me to do. My mama is a very strong woman. She raised me to be super strong. If I got the platform to spread positivity, I’m gonna do it.”

This work ethic was profitable. In May 2019, Megan released Fever, which peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard 200. She coined the phrase “Hot Girl Summer” on Twitter, which resulted in a single with Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign with the same name. The song achieved platinum status and dominated the 2019 summer. Megan trademarked “Hot Girl Summer” because it became so well-known.

In 2020, Megan’s “Savage” gained popularity on TikTok and served as the inspiration for a dance competition. Megan collaborated with fellow Houstonian and Megan’s idol Beyoncé on the top-charting remix of “Savage.” The Houston NGO Bread of Life received sales revenue from this remix.

In 2020, Megan released her EP Suga; she also produced and filmed the music video for the EP’s song “Captain Hook.” Good News, her debut album, was released in November of that year.

Megan took home the Best New Artist prize at the 2021 Grammys. She also took home awards for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for their collaboration on the remix of “Savage.”

One of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2020, Megan was named. She has been featured on the covers of several magazines, including the swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated. She works with Cash App and is an ambassador for Rihanna and Revlon’s Savage X Fenty lingerie collection.

The 2019 vampire YouTube series Hottieween was created and starred in by Megan. She serves as a judge on the ballroom voguing-themed program “Legendary.”

Injury from Gunshots and Activism

Rapper Tory Lanez allegedly shot Megan in both feet in July 2020 as she was exiting a vehicle they had been in together. She initially denied there had been shooting because she was afraid of police abuse, but she eventually came forward to provide a statement about it. Lanez rejected Megan’s account of what happened. Megan had numerous admirers, but she also came across criticism, satire, and false information online.

In reaction, Megan tweeted,  “Black women are so unprotected & we hold so many things in to protect the feelings of others w/o considering our own. It might be funny to y’all on the internet and just another messy topic for you to talk about but this is my real life and I’m real life hurt and traumatized.”

Additionally, she discussed the experience in an opinion piece she penned for the New York Times. Black women are still frequently insulted and ignored in a wide variety of spheres of life, she wrote in the letter. The confrontation with Lanez was alluded to in Megan’s song “Shots Fired.” Megan used her performance on Saturday Night Live in October 2020 to express her displeasure that Breonna Taylor’s killers had not been brought to justice.

Disputes

The song “WAP,” which featured Cardi B and Megan, drew criticism for its overt eroticism, but not enough to keep it from reaching the top of the charts. Megan retorted, “Why am I not allowed to talk about my body? For years, men have been engaging in it. The lads shouldn’t be crying so hard when I say that I have a WAP.”

Megan had to go to court with her original record company, 1501 Certified Entertainment, in order to release Suga in 2020. She had to return to court the following year in order to release the “Butter” remix that she had created with the K-pop sensations BTS.

Megan is aware that her exposure to criticism increases because she is famous. She has even been charged with lying about liking anime and manga online. She told the Los Angeles Times, “If you don’t have no haters, you’re not poppin’,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “So that just really let us know we’re doing something right.”
