Rory John Gates Net Worth, Siblings, Edu and Upbringing

Unless you’re in the shoes of their children, some of us can’t tell what it feels like to grow as the child of one of the world’s richest men. A popular name in the industry, Bill Gates has raised people’s interest in his family, especially his son, Rory John Gates.

Rory John Gates is the only son and second child of the billionaire Bill Gates. He has two sisters, Jennifer Katharine Gates and Phoebe Adele Gates.

Bill has managed to keep most of his personal issues out of the media’s prying eyes. However, we know that he is more than the father we expected him to be.

For one, many believe that he is lenient and probably raised his children in a life of luxury and overspending. If you’re one of such believers, you’re in for a surprise. This post shall take you briefly into the life of Bill Gate and tell you what you never knew about his son, Rory.

Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, welcomed Rory John Gates on May 23, 1999, in Seattle, Washington. He was the second child after their first daughter, Jennifer. Unfortunately, there is very little information on how he spent his early childhood.

However, he spent most of this time at Xanadu, Gates’ $127 million family residence in Medina, Washington. The home has 24 bathrooms, a 23-car garage, and an on-site beach with sand imported from the Caribbean. The family spends over a million dollars a year paying for taxes!

Who is Rory John Gates

When Rory was a child, he went to Lakeside School in Seattle, his father’s alma mater. We also believe that Rory is a student at the University of Chicago. A photograph of him in the University suggests that he is pursuing a law degree.

At the time of this writing, there has been no denial or confirmation of his educational status.

Things You Won’t Believe About Rory John Gates

Rich kids always pass on the message of being spoilt brats due to growing up in an environment where they always had what they needed. Therefore, it is surprising to find that the opposite is the case in the Gates family. In other words, instead of turning out sassy, as many would expect, Rory and his sisters turned out to be modest.

Even more shocking are some of the facts Bill and Melinda have revealed about their son.

Rory Believes In Gender equality

One thing we do know about Rory is that he is a staunch supporter of equality among men and women. Melinda Gates penned an essay for Time magazine on her son’s 18th birthday, in which she expressed his thoughts on feminism.

In that write-up, she noted how Rory was compassionate and curious. Aside from being intelligent and well-read, he’s also well-versed in a wide range of issues that stimulate his curiosity. She added that besides being a good son and brother, one of the aspects about Rory that she loves about him is his feminist beliefs.

Melinda also told her readers that the family had a regular discussion on gender equality over supper.

Bill Gates Raised Rory And His Siblings Without The Aid Of Technology

It’s not difficult to envisage Rory and his siblings growing up in a world where they had access to the most cutting-edge technologies available. After all, it was their father who was responsible for the creation of Microsoft. Unfortunately, however, that is not the case.

Bill and Melinda have always been concerned about the hazards of spending time in front of a screen. Following the appearance of one of his daughters becoming addicted to a video game, Bill set a screentime limit for his children in 2007.

In a 2017 interview with mirror, Gates explained that he restricted cellphones in his home. Additionally, he didn’t give his children phones till they were 14 years old. A New York writer, Alice Thomson, confirmed this in 2018 after an interview with Melinda Gates.

Rory Jonn Gates Has No Expectations Of A Multi-Billion-Dollar Inheritance Any Time Soon

Bill has managed to raise his children in a satisfactory manner irrespective of his riches. His children were obliged to undertake home chores in addition to adhering to their family’s stringent smartphone rules. They’ve also inherited their parents’ altruistic tendencies due to this, which is another advantage.

After his death, Bill intends to donate the majority of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. According to media reports, a $10 million inheritance is expected to be split equally among the children. Though that’s still a lot of money, it is nothing compared to his entire wealth.

Ultimately, Bill wants his children to get a decent education to go out and establish their own enterprises. As a result, he enforced his home rules and taught his children the importance of morals. While there’s been no word on what Rory is doing these days, it is safe to assume that he’ll use his influence for better things.
