Early Life
Ryan was born on December 30, 1989. He is the son of a former professional skateboarder and entrepreneur Ryan Allen Sheckler. He grew up in a family of three children, with his two younger brothers, Shane and Kane.
Having discovered his father’s old skateboard when he was two years old, Sheckler began skating at the age of two. As a way of boosting Sheckler’s self-confidence, his father said that he learned his first kickflip when he was about six years old. As a young boy, these words only made him better.
Sheckler competed in the summer 2003 X Games and won the Skateboard Park event, making him the youngest gold medalist in X Games history at thirteen. In addition, he took first place in the Vans Triple Crown, Gravity Games, and Slam City Jam competitions that year.

Sheckler acknowledged being an alcoholic for a few years before his addiction began to interfere with his skating career, leading to his admission to a recovery facility in late 2017.
