Cameron Jibril Thomaz was born on September 8, 1987, in Minot, North Dakota. He is a rapper, singer, and composer who rose to fame after his debut album, “Show and Prove,” was released on September 5, 2006.

Early Life

Wiz grew up traveling throughout the US and Europe. Before the family relocated to Pittsburgh, he had the opportunity to reside in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan because both of his parents were in the military. When Wiz was three years old, his parents got divorced, and his mother was handed custody of him. He started creating his own lyrics and became interested in rapping while attending Taylor Allderdice High School.

He chose the Arabic term “Khalifa,” which means “successor,” as his stage name and got it tattooed on his body when he was 17 years old.

His Career

When Wiz first met Rostrum Records owner Benjy Grinberg when he was 16 years old, Benjy immediately signed him after hearing some of his rhymes. In 2005, he released his first mixtape, “Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania.” In 2007, he secured a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records, and two mixtapes were released under their label: “Grow Season” on July 4, 2007, and “Prince of the City 2” on November 20, 2007.

Shortly after, his first song, “Say Yeah,” was released. It reached its peak at number twenty on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks and number twenty on the Billboard Rhythmic Top forty.

His subsequent mixtape, “Star Power,” was released in September, and “Flight School,” his following mixtape, was released in April 2009. Shortly after that, Wiz quit Warner Bros. Records due to issues with the debut album’s release.

How Fly,” his most recent mixtape, was released on August 9, 2009, “Burn After Rolling,” on November 2, 2009, and “Deal or No Deal,” his second studio album, on November 24, 2009. His new mixtape “Kush and Orange Juice” was offered freely downloadable as a thank you to his fans on June 14, 2010, and it quickly rose to the top of Google’s Hot Search Trends and Twitter’s most talked-about items.

While on his first tour, which was to take him to 50 cities after signing a deal with Atlantic Records, he was actually detained in East Carolina for marijuana possession but later released after posting $300,000 bail.

On September 14, 2010, “Black and Yellow,” his debut single for Atlantic Records, was released and quickly rose to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart. “Rolling Papers,” his latest studio album, was released on March 29, 2011, and it reached its highest position on the Billboard 200 Chart at position #2.

On April 11, 2012, he released his latest record, “Only Nigga In First Class,” which also peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart. Seven-track extended play “Live in Concert” by the artist was published on April 20, 2013, and his new studio album “Blacc Hollywood” followed a year later.

His EP “Talk About It in the Morning” was released on March 31, 2015, and he afterward released other digital singles, including “We Dem Boyz” and “See You Again.” In May 2015, Wiz was once more detained for marijuana possession; yet, a few days after his release, the ironically named “28 Grams” mixtape was released.

He released his mixtape, “Cabin Fever 3,” on December 15, 2015, and his most recent album, “Khalifa,” on February 5, 2016.

After working with Benjy for about ten years, Wiz sued him in 2016 and demanded $1 million plus attorney expenses. The Saga of Wiz Khalifa, Wiz’s most recent EP, was released on April 20, 2020.

Daily cannabis use by Wiz, which was once an expensive practice, is now supported by The Cookie Company, which provides it to him gratis. He has attempted Muay Thai and has been practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu since May 2017 since he is interested in martial arts.
