He was going through adolescence at the time of the recording of his debut album and had trouble modulating his singing voice. Usher was brought to New York in 1994 to live with Puff Daddy as part of a singing/coaching “camp” after the company placed his album on hold. Usher’s self-titled debut album was released on August 30, 1994. Just 16 years old, he was. In terms of the Billboard charts, it peaked at No. 25.

My Way, Usher’s second studio album, was made available in September 1997. “You Make Me Wanna…“, the lead song, peaked at No. 1 in the United Kingdom. It was his first American single to be certified in both gold and platinum. In January 1998, “Nice & Slow” reached its highest point.

The album has earned six platinum certifications. Usher’s third album, “8701,” came out in August 2001. Its lead singles, “U Remind Me” and “U Got It Back,” peaked at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. For “U Remind Me,” Usher received a Grammy for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance. For “U Don’t Have to Call,” he received the same honor the following year.

Usher released his fourth studio album, “Confessions,” in March 2004. It has the most first-week sales of any male R&B artist, selling 1.1 million units upon release. For six weeks, the lead song “Yeah!” held down the top spot. Usher received numerous honors and prizes for Confessions, including three Grammys.

Usher released five more albums after that, all of which were moderate to very successful but didn’t quite match the success of his first four: Here I Stand (2008), Raymond v. Raymond (2010), Looking 4 Myself, Hard II Love (2016), and A (2019). He revealed in 2019 that Confessions II would be released in 2020.

On the US Billboard 200 chart, a number of his albums debuted at number one. The RIAA awarded platinum certification to five of his albums (My Way, 8701, Confessions, Here I Stand), with Confessions selling more than 10 million copies and earning a diamond rating in the USA. U Remind Me (8701), OMG (Raymond v. Raymond), and Yeah! (Confessions), three of his ten number-one single hits, were the best-performing songs of 2004 in the USA. Yeah! (Confessions) also peaked at number one in nine other countries. He never ceases to wow fans with his dynamic live performances.
