Vivica Fox moved to California in 1988 to enrol at Golden West College. She began her career as a professional actor while living in California, initially appearing as Carmen Silva on the NBC daytime drama Days of Our Lives in 1988.

She made her acting debut as a hooker in Oliver Stone’s war drama Born on the Fourth of July (1989), and in the ABC comedy series Living Dolls, a spin-off of the sitcom Who’s the Boss? she was cast as Emily Franklin in the pilot episode before Halle Berry took her place for the remaining episodes.
