The Early Life of Marcella Samora
She was born on July 17th, 1944, in the United States, to a Texan father and a Coloradan mother. Although there is no public information on her childhood and education, she spent her early life in Washington, and has a Masters of Arts in Journalism, at New York University. Marcella Samora enjoyed her private life, but began to draw attention to herself when she met the love of her life, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. in 1961.

Marcella met Abraham while serving in the military, they dated for two years, then did a private wedding in 1963. In that same year, they had their first child, Abraham Quintanilla II, four years after, she had her second child, Suzanne Quintanilla and in 1970, Selena made a grand entrance. Marcella Samora was diagnosed with a tumour which was to be removed immediately, but the couple decided to go for a second diagnosis, and the result came out saying she was pregnant.
Before serving in the military, Abraham Qunitanilla had always loved music and enjoyed singing. He was in a group called. ‘Los Dinos,’ and they would perform a mix of original songs, as well as covers in different venues. When he got discharged from active duty, he re-joined the group, and they performed American pop, rock and roll music for a while, then he quit the group and relocated with his family to Texas, in 1970.
Abraham Quintanilla introduced music to all his children, and from there, he discovered Selena’s gift and decided to train and develop her talents. After seeing how talented his family was, he decided to form a music group called, ‘Selena y Los Dinos,’ a group consisting of his children. They began recording songs with Selena as the vocalist.

The late Selena was indeed a star loaded with amazing gifts, she was a singer, songwriter, businesswoman, spokesperson, model, actress and fashion designer. Her songs were so beautiful and unique, that her fans called her the ‘Queen of Tejano Music,’ while her clothing choices gave her the iconic name, ‘Tejano Madonna.’ In due time, she became the top selling artist of the 90’s and was responsible for the audience streaming Latin music.
She also got a record deal with a Universal Music Group (EMI Latin) and released the album, ‘Entre a Mi Mundo,’ which got to the top of the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums. Her album, ‘Live,’ also got her a Grammy Award.
The Murder of Selena Quintanilla
Selena was killed by her former manager in 1995, Yolanda Saldívar who was also the president of her fan club. Unfortunately, Yolanda was embezzling money from Selena’s boutique by creating fake checks and accounts. The confrontation from the family was not accepted with a good heart, and Yolanda felt the need to respond with a gun.

How Marcella Samora Was Affected By the Death of Her Third Child
Marcella was really devastated, and ensured that Selena got justice for her untimely death. She finally had peace of mind when Yolanda was given life imprisonment in 1995, however, will be eligible to patrol in March 2025.
Where is Marcella Samora now?
Marcella worked hard alongside her husband to keep Selena’s legacy alive. A foundation was set up, ‘The Selena Foundation,’ with the help of Selena’s husband, Chris Perez, to ensure that children pursue education and become better versions of themselves. Some of the organizations that the Selena Foundation has donated to include the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Supply Our Students, Molina Neighborhood Barefoot Operation, the Taft Booster Club, the Women’s Shelter, and the Special Olympics. Despite it being a non-profit organisation, she is working hard to make sure it is properly managed.
