Bridges was born to two actors – Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges on December 9, 1941 in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles with his younger brother Jeff and sister – Lucinda. In 1948, the family lost the youngest brother, Garett died of sudden infant death syndrome.

His nickname, “Beau,” was what his parents called him. Beau initially wanted to be a basketball star player and had pursued this goal in college. He played under coach John Wooden of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of California. 

He was later enlisted in the United States Coast Guard Reserve, where he served for eight years.

In 1948, Bridges began his filming career with minor roles in Force of Evil and No Minor Vices. In 1949, he played other minor roles in the Red Pony. Soon, his father started a show called the Lloyd Bridges Show, and Bridges with his younger brother stood by him. 

He made appearances in this show and other television series like Mr. Novak, Combat and The Loner.

Through the 1970s and 1980s, Bridges found stable work in the television and filming industry. During this time, he played roles in Greased Lightning, The Hotel New Hampshire, Heart Like a Wheel, The Landlord, and others.

It was in 1989 that his best-known role finally struck, and he came to limelight. He starred side-by-side with his brother, Jeff, who is one of The Fabulous Baker Boys. 

Beau continued his career in television season, starring in films like Harts of the West, The SandKings and others. He also starred in Beggars and Choosers series and had a prominent role in Maximum Bob.

Bridges kept featuring in films through the early 2000s. He also guest-starred in many movies, including the 100th episode of Desperate Housewives in 2009. He received an Emmy Award nomination for this performance.

Personal Life

Bridges married Julie Landfield in but their marriage only lasted till 1974. They divorced after ten years of marriage. Their matrimony led to the birth of two sons — Casey and Jordan. Jordan Bridges followed his father’s footsteps and has made an impact in the movie industry. 

After the divorce, Bridges married Wendy Treece in 1984, and they had three children. These are Emily Bridges, Ezekiel Jeffrey “Zeke” Bridges, and Dylan Bridges. Dylan Bridges starred alongside his father in a movie in the 1990s.

Despite his role in movies, Bridges is a staunch Christian. He has mentioned his displeasure for vain use of the name of God and has demanded the lines of such scripts be changed. In 2004, Bridges became a vegan and remains so till date.

Bridges nominations for awards include Golden Globe Awards 1969, American Comedy Awards 1990, Primetime Emmy Awards 1996, and more. He won the Primetime Emmy Awards in 1997 for the Second Civil War movie. He also won the same award in 1992 and 1993.

Bridges recorded enormous achievement when he won the Grammy Awards in 2008. He had won this award for the Best Spoken Word Album for the movie – An Inconvenient Truth.
